The popular head coach of Louisiana State Pokey Chatman served a three-year tenure with an amazing 90 and 14 record that includes going 47 and 3 during her first 50 games which is the second best record for a head coach with at least 50 games in women’s basketball. Because of her outstanding achievements, she was also awarded the Coach of the Year by the Black Coaches Association for the years 2004 and 2005 not to mention being awarded the same title by the United States Basketball Writers Association in 2005 including the Naismith National Coach of the Year.
Despite her shining accomplishments, she has opted to resign from her position as head coach of the Minter where she originally played the guard position from 1988 to 1991. She has been involved in the school’s basketball program for the past 17 years in the capacity of player and later on as head coach.
